Dubai is the most popular cities among its seven counterparts. And the main reason behind it is its innovative urban architecture. Be it the “Burj al-Arab”, the Palm islands and future projects like the “Hydropolis” - the world’s first underwater hotel, the “Burj Dubai” - the soon to be finished tallest building and many other magnificent future projects, Dubai truly stands out.

The latest attraction added to Dubai was the Dubai metro which is the largest automated rail system in the world and the first metro network in the states of UAE. The project was identified back in 1997 and was mainly implemented to ease road traffic due to the rapidly increasing population. Japanese firms like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries took up the building of the first two lines with the consortium of 3 other companies namely, Japanese Obayashi and Kajima corporations, and Yapi Merkesi of Turkey.

The train lines mainly divided into the “red lines” and “green lines” have 29 and 15 stations respectively. The railway lines have been constructed in such a way to ensure that they don’t cross highways at any time. The Dubai metro offers exclusive ‘silver’ class, a woman and children’s section and a first class ‘gold’ section.

The controlling system for the driverless train and communication system for train video surveillance were accomplished by “Alcatel- Lucent”. Furthermore the trains are Wi -Fi enabled providing the maximum to its passengers.

The launch of the metro was by itself a stupendous affair, the event being held by the “Artaaj Events”, a popular event management company. The “Mall of Emirates” station witnessed several VIP’s who were given an entire tour exhibition of the building and simultaneously the “Trade Centre Station” opened up to the public.

Live feed projection of the event was carried out on 10 of Dubai’s landmark buildings and sharp at 9:09, the President pressed the button to reveal the “Trade Centre” station. The first VIP train was seen arriving shortly. And the event was concluded by the Dubai Metro Show, an event by itself huge in proportions.

Future projections show that the metro would serve approx 1.2 million passengers on a day and 355 million a year. Constructions for 3 more lines namely the Blue, Purple and Yellow are in progress to ensure total coverage.

Be it the Shopping festival of Dubai, the unbelievable projects, the metro and so on, Dubai surely does it with absolute panache.
